Vicky Kaushal recently shared his experience of feeling butterflies in his stomach for the first time before the release of the romantic comedy film “Zara Hatke Zara Bachke,” directed by Laxman Utekar. During a media interaction in Mumbai, the 35-year-old actor, who plays the male lead Kapil Dubey in the movie, revealed his nervousness and curiosity about how the audience would respond.
“Before ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke,’ I had never experienced such nerves on a Thursday night. I was eager to know what would unfold on Friday, whether people would come to watch the film and whether they would like it,” Vicky shared. He admitted that he couldn’t sleep that night, as the entire team was eager to understand what the audience truly desires to see on the big screen. They were seeking validation from the viewers this time, according to Vicky.
“Zara Hatke Zara Bachke,” which also stars Sara Ali Khan, has garnered more than Rs 30 crores within five days of its release. The film, produced by Maddock Films, revolves around a middle-class couple who take an unconventional path of getting divorced in order to secure their own home.
“When the trailer of our film was released, there were suggestions that it should have been premiered on an OTT platform. However, I believe the audience has demonstrated their power, and this is their triumph. Laxman sir was confident that the film’s story would strike a chord with the viewers, and we have witnessed that in the last five days since its release,” Vicky added.
Vicky expressed his gratitude to producer Dinesh Vijan for taking the risk of releasing the film in theaters. “Dinu sir had all the logical reasons to release this film on an OTT platform, but he took the gamble of bringing ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ to cinema halls. He dedicated long hours, even till 3 am, in the office over the past few weeks to ensure the film’s release. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you, Dinu sir.”
Director Laxman Utekar, whose previous films with Maddock Films include “Luka Chuppi” (2019) and “Mimi” (2021), echoed Vicky’s sentiments. He emphasized that while they can create a good film, it is essential for it to reach its target audience. The entire industry was skeptical about the film’s prospects in just fifteen days, but they have now been proven wrong. Laxman expressed gratitude to Dinesh Vijan for demonstrating that even a small-scale film can succeed in theaters, despite the general perception that only big-budget productions thrive in cinemas.
Sara Ali Khan, the female lead who portrays Somya Chawla Dubey in the film, spoke about the connection between the movie’s release and her debut film, “Kedarnath.” She recalled receiving a call from Dinesh Vijan while she was vacationing with friends in Kedarnath. He congratulated her and informed her that the film would be released on the big screen. Sara felt like she was making her debut all over again.
“After several years, it felt like a dream to see myself on the big screen. During the pandemic, I wondered if I would ever have the opportunity to see my name on the big screen again. I believe in signs and positivity. My first film was ‘Kedarnath,’ and I was in Kedarnath when Dinu sir shared the news of releasing my film in theaters. I’m extremely grateful to him,” Sara expressed with gratitude.
